DEER PARK, NY — Madison Ave Construction, a New York State licensed general contractor serving Long Island and New York City since 1999, donated labor and materials this past weekend to build new overhead canopies at American Legion Wilson Ritch Post 432. The charitable project covers the post's exterior stairwell entrances to stop rainwater from running down the steps and into the building's basement.
The post's open exterior stairwells had been allowing rainwater to collect against the basement doors during storms, creating an ongoing risk of water intrusion. As a restoration contractor, Madison Ave Construction regularly sees how unchecked water entry leads to moisture damage, mold, and costly structural repairs. Rather than treat the symptoms after the fact, the company volunteered to solve the problem at its source.
"The American Legion does so much for our community and for the men and women who served. Keeping their building dry and protected was the least we could do to say thank you."
What the Crew Built
Over the course of the weekend, the Madison Ave Construction team designed and constructed new overhead canopies above the post's stairwell entrances. Built on sturdy posts and properly pitched to shed water away from the openings, the canopies keep rain off the steps and direct it clear of the basement entry — protecting the lower level and the building for years to come.
